From Such Small Things

I’d be writing more, but I’m busy picking tomatoes.

This picture is the haul from ONE DAY.

I’m sure glad I spent all that time worrying about not having enough tomatoes.

Luckily I am now spending all my time worrying that our tomatoes will all peak at once and by next week we won’t have any left.

In the meantime, though, I have to go buy an outdoor salt shaker. It will probably get here next week, as the last tomato withers and dies.

  2. Homemade tomato juice is what I’m saying. Or stewed tomatoes. But that’s only after you have eaten all the “as is” tomatoes you can tolerate. Enjoy! Wish you could beam some out to Internetland.

  3. holy ketchup batman!

  4. Giant batch of homemade tomato sauce, which you can partition and freeze, or can it. Oh, and if you have little cherry tomatoes, long slow low-temperature oven roasting turns them into little bits of heaven.

I’ll help you eat them when I see y’all in a couple of weeks (OMG!)

  5. OMG! One word – SALSA!

  6. I’m jealous. I just lost all four of my freaking tomato plants to late blight.

  7. Oh, YUM. Fresh tomatoes sandwiches are my favorite in the summer. Well, anytime really, but you can only get the good homegrown tomatoes in the summer.

  8. Ooooh. Nice. My tomatoes are just starting to ripen now, and I’m already anticipating sores in my mouth from eating them for breakfast, lunch, and dinner!

  9. you are so funny with your worrying…and so very very very like me. of course, that’s why i keep reading. :)

    also: YUMMMMM.

  10. EXCELLENT HAUL!!!!

Mine aren’t quite there yet… my romas are coming around, but it’s still entirely too hot for the rest. I will have a mega-ton, though. It’s going to get scary, especially because I’m the only member of this family who will eat them.

Then again, the same goes for everything else I managed to plant.

  11. oh I’m so jealous! thanks to our cold and rainy and sucktastic summer, so far our haul has been TWO, count ‘em, TWO cherry tomatoes. TWO, I say!

    2!

  12. Oooooooh! Mine aren’t in yet. I’m hoping for just a few more weeks.

A lady at church says you can just throw whole ones into the freezer, then toss them still frozen into soups and whatnot later in the year. I’m tempted to try it.
