Reader Help!

Hey, does anyone out there have any suggestions for cheapish places to stay close to the beach in Australia?  We are flying into Sydney and spending three days downtown, and we’d like to spend the rest of the time lying around in the sun next to the ocean, but we’re having trouble finding places that we can afford that aren’t all booked up or described on Trip Advisor as full of bugs.

Any ideas?

Thank you in advance!

I would avoid the backpacker areas (Coogee, Manly, Bondi) and think Clovelly, Bronte.

However…if you want unspoiled, beautiful beaches I would get on the train (4 an hour, no need to pre-book) and go the 2 hours up the road to beautiful Newcastle! Everything will be cheaper and chilled!

If you decide to stay in Sydney I would stay in the city for the full time and just public transport it to the beaches for the day…

  2. OR! You could go down to Jarvis Bay (South) – beautiful, surrounded by National Parks etc…

If you can be bothered going north, Byron Bay and its surrounds are pretty gorgeous. The township itself is busy these days, but the beaches are gorgeous. Port Macquarie is also nice.

  4. You should visit at http://www.byronbeachresort.com.au/ is great place, as I went there before a week and had great weekend.
